Short History
VAN HAGERBEER ORGAN
{short description of image}
In 1639 the organbuilders Germer Galtussen and Jacobus van Hagerbeer started the construction using old remains of a previous organ and completed the magnificent instrument in 1643. The Van Hagerbeer Organ has been modernized twice in the past centuries. A major renovation took place between 1944 and 1946 by G. van Leeuwen of Leiderdorp.

In 1989 it was decided to bring back the organ into the original state of 1643. The restoration was completed in 1998. The instrument has been brought back to the lower pitch, the midtone tuning, and the disposition of 1643. The most important pipes still date from 1446. The Hagerbeer Organ therefore is the oldest performing organ in the world.
